Home for the
Holidays

Toby's mom and step-dad,
as well as Shannon's parents, joined us for a festive
first Christmas in our new home in the woods. We had
just unpacked our last boxes and installed our oven and
fridge the day before Genie arrived. What a treat to
share our beautiful forest, camp, and renovated cabin
with our family! It was also a delight to
finally unpack all our beautiful wedding gifts and start
enjoying them.

During our
families' visits, we hiked and explored the surrounding mountains.
The abandoned Big Horn Mine was a holiday
favorite. Below, Genie tests the scent of a giant cedar
tree near Camp ELK. And, as usual, Fenway makes a
superb mess of herself chasing waterfalls and uprooting
rocks along the way. |

| This 'n That

An unwelcome, but
glorious, visitor snuffles around our driveway. A number of
coyotes have been nosing around the house since we moved in,
ostensibly to lure Fenway into a chase. It seems our ferocious
pooch has encroached on coyote territory.

Hiking up along
the fire road, it is possible to see a small sliver of the Camp
ELK pool deck.

Shannon graciously
accepts the Spirit of Christmas award on behalf of Camping
Services at the annual San Gabriel Valley Family YMCA holiday
party. As you can see, the hard work we put into our camp-themed
holiday table decorations certainly merited top honors.

Toby puts
the omnipresent pinecone to good use in his mission to
entice winter birdies to drop by our cabin for a snack. |

The
(Almost) Finished Product

Our little cabin
is finally our home. Come spring, we may actually get a front
porch.

interior shots, follow the construction history, and learn more about Camp
ELK and Camp Coulter Pines, visit where we
